Review – How the Light Gets In (Chief Inspector Gamache #9)

Louise Penny continues to hit her stride with the Gamache series and How the Light Gets In has now taken the spot as my favorite installment.

After book 8 I was a little hesitant to read this one.  We were left with an important relationship in shambles because of weakness and betrayal.  Could these two characters find their way back to each other?

Book 9 takes us back to Three Pines.  Gamache is called by Myrna to help her check in on a missing friend who was supposed to visit for Christmas.  When he travels to Montreal, he is drawn into a murder investigation.  His attention is divided between doing this job and finding evidence against his crooked superiors in the Surete.

How the Light Gets In is a classic mystery with many surprises along the way.  But, it’s the emotion evoked by the character relationships that makes this a page turner.

I absolutely adored this book.  5/5 stars.
