Review – Hexed (The Iron Druid Chronicles #2) by Kevin Hearne

9595650Let me be honest with you for a second.  For the past couple of weeks I haven’t been very motivated to write book reviews.  Part of it is just being tired and part is that I don’t want reviewing to become a chore so I haven’t forced myself.  The downside to that is writing a review for a book you finished a week ago is more difficult.  So, I’m just going to give you the basics on why you should be reading the Iron Druid Series and how much fun Hexed is as the 2nd installment in the series.

Atticus O’Sullivan – Atticus is our main character and the only living druid.  Hearne does a wonderful job of explaining his magic and keeping it unique in a genre that is chock full.  Atticus is funny, loves dogs and owns his own business (why is this starting to sound like a singles ad?)  All around solid MC.

Oberon – Irish Wolfhound, best friend and sidekick.  My favorite character.

The Witchy Women – Atticus had some witch problems in book one and he’s working to make peace with the coven.  He thinks things are going okay until he comes under attack of a spell.  Turns out it is another set of witches who are trying to take him out and take over this territory.  As bad guys, the intruder witches were pretty interesting but I especially loved the hometown coven in this installment.  Good witches (maybe) with just enough spice.

Fairies – Again, Hearne is solid at world building and uses the mythology of the fae to his full advantage.

Demons, Druid apprentices (should that be apparent?), Gods / Goddesses and more round out the story.  Excellent urban fantasy.  4.5/5 stars.
