Review – Clean Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles #1) by Ilona Andrews

19090384The husband and wife writing team of Ilona Andrews are superstars and Clean Sweep is a perfect example of why I feel that way.

Originally written as a serial on their website with the chapters posted so that readers could follow the story for FREE and give them real-time feedback.  I was kind of late to the game and it was close to being published in full so I held off on reading until I could get my hands on the paperback and add it to my waiting list.

First of all, the paperback is beautiful.  The cover, the artwork inside (drawings of many of the characters) and even the freaking font are perfect.

Most IA series are based in magic and this is no exception.  Dina runs a B&B where magical beings are welcome.  When something starts attacking dogs in her neighborhood, she knows she needs to stop it before humans are killed.

Werewolves, vampires, wicked queens and demons.  Oh my.  Did I mention her inn is a living thing and responds to her?  Or that her broom can be transformed into a spear or other weapon when needed?

While there is the start of a potential love triangle (usually the kiss of death), I don’t care.  I loved this book.  So creative and fun.  Just what the doctor ordered.

5/5 stars.  If you are new to Urban Fantasy, this wouldn’t be a bad introduction to the genre.  Give it a shot.  And, spring for the paperback.  It’s worth it.
